Technical Delivery Manager
Location: Chennai, India | Work Model: In-office (5 days per week)

Appian’s Performance Engineering Center is a globally integrated, capability-focused consulting hub built around specialized Performance Engineering and Reliability Engineering capabilities. Our mission is to ensure that Appian customer applications are built right, functionally correct, resilient, scalable, and performant under real-world conditions.
The Opportunity
Why join Appian as a Technical Delivery Manager? Unlike traditional management roles weighed down by administrative HR tasks and resource scheduling, this position is a pure technical leadership and mentorship role. Based fully in our Chennai office, you will be the ultimate day-to-day anchor for the development and delivery of global Performance Engineering and Performance Reliability capabilities . You will be coaching consultants side-by-side, building global IP, and holding the quality standard for every deliverable that leaves the team. What You’ll Do
• Deliver and Demonstrate Excellence: Remain a hands-on, billable contributor to Performance Engineering and Reliability capabilities. Execute engagements and modeling what “great” looks like in practice. Your technical credibility is the foundation of your coaching effectiveness.
• Build and Steward Methodology and IP: Create, maintain, and continuously improve the frameworks, playbooks, tooling, accelerators, and standards that define how your service is delivered. Organize and document knowledge so the capability can scale beyond any single individual.
Ensure Delivery Quality: Review deliverables, set quality benchmarks, and maintain premium consulting standards across all engagements. Identify delivery risks early and surface them to the global leadership. Ensure process discipline is maintained across every engagement your team touches.
• Coach, Mentor, and Onboard Consultants: Guide team members through difficult technical problems in real time. Lead onboarding so new consultants reach full productivity quickly. Build and lead training sessions, develop learning collateral, and support each consultant’s long-term career growth through on-the-job coaching.
• Drive Tooling Mastery and Innovation: Ensure the team deeply understands and effectively uses service-enabling tools (e.g., Grafana, Python, SQL query analysis, Locust, Jupyter Notebooks, AI). Identify gaps, propose enhancements, and collaborate with leadership to evolve
• Connect Globally and Foster Knowledge Sharing: Work closely with Global leaders and peers to ensure consistent delivery and cross-pollination of innovation. Lead or actively participate in communities of practice, share learnings broadly, and represent Chennai’s capability expertise on the global stage.
• Support Talent Development and Hiring: Help define hiring profiles for the capability, participate in interviews, and provide performance input for consultants within your service line. Shape what “great looks like” at every level of the team
• Drive Tooling Proficiency: Ensure the team effectively utilizes service-enabling tools, identifying and flagging gaps or improvement opportunities back to leadership.
Required Qualifications
You will possess deep expertise in Performance Engineering and Performance Reliability. If you are not already, you will become a recognized expert in how Appian behaves under load, at scale, and under failure conditions. That means going beyond tooling: you will learn Appian's architecture, process engine, data fabric, and performance characteristics from the ground up.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience leading technical delivery teams within an enterprise software or consulting environment.
• Capability Depth: Deep, demonstrable expertise in at least one of Chennai’s core engineering disciplines: Performance Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Development Standards Engineering, Data Quality Engineering.
• Craft and Quality Ownership: Proven track record of building or maturing a technical methodology, including the creation of reusable assets, documented practices, and quality standards used by a broader team.
• Mentorship and Coaching: Demonstrated ability to coach and develop engineers of varying experience levels, including less-experienced staff, to produce high-quality, consistent outputs in a leveraged delivery model.
• Technical Oversight: Strong background in technical coaching, code reviews, and quality assurance for enterprise-scale applications.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience contributing to the design or improvement of an as-a-service delivery model, including standardized tooling, methodology documentation, or repeatable engagement frameworks.
• Experience collaborating with globally distributed stakeholders in a matrixed organization.
• Familiarity with AI-augmented engineering practices or experience integrating automation and AI tooling into a technical service delivery workflow.
