The Role We are hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to help build the foundation that the rest of Clark's engineering organization will scale on. As we expand our AI, document processing, integrations, and customer-facing capabilities, we need engineers who can build the systems, tooling, and operational practices that allow the broader engineering team to move quickly with confidence. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, product engineering, and reliability. You will own foundational systems that improve stability, increase engineering velocity, and create leverage across the entire company. You will work closely with product engineers, AI engineers, and leadership to ensure Clark's platform remains reliable, scalable, and easy to build on. Why This Role Matters Over the next year, Clark will significantly expand its investments in AI agents, document intelligence, integrations, and enterprise deployments. The Platform Engineering team is responsible for building the foundation that enables those teams to move quickly without sacrificing reliability, maintainability, or operational excellence. Success in this role will directly accelerate the effectiveness of our AI, OCR, integrations, and infrastructure teams. What You'll Do • Improve platform reliability, stability, and performance • Design and build shared services used across the engineering organization • Improve observability, monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling • Build internal developer tooling and workflows that increase engineering velocity • Improve deployment, testing, and release processes • Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks and production issues • Contribute to architecture and technical planning decisions • Help create the foundation for future infrastructure and security investments Who You Are • 5+ years of software engineering experience • Experience building and operating production systems • Strong backend engineering fundamentals • Experience designing APIs and distributed systems • Strong debugging and troubleshooting ability • Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern deployment workflows • Excellent technical judgment around reliability, scalability, and maintainability • Comfortable owning ambiguous, high-impact problems from definition through implementation • High ownership mentality and ability to operate independently • Excellent written and verbal communication Bonus • Built internal platforms used by other engineers • Worked on reliability, platform, DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure-adjacent teams • Operated systems with demanding uptime or performance requirements • Worked in fast-moving startup environments • Experience supporting AI-native products or large-scale document workflows You do not need prior accounting or audit experience, but you should be excited about learning complex workflows and building systems that operate in high-trust environments.
