Job Title: Locum Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist Location: London, UK Job Type: Locum/Temp Contract Length: 6 months Start Date: ASAP Salary: Hourly Rate - £90.00-£ 115.00 Working Hours: Full-time / Part-time (flexible depending on availability) Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist to join our dynamic ophthalmology team in London. This is an exciting opportunity to provide specialist care for children with a wide range of ocular conditions in a leading healthcare setting. The role involves outpatient clinics, surgical procedures, multidisciplinary team participation, and teaching responsibilities. Key Responsibilities: • Provide high-quality clinical care to paediatric patients with ophthalmic conditions. • Diagnose and manage conditions such as strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataracts, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, and other paediatric ocular diseases. • Perform specialist paediatric ophthalmic surgery where appropriate. • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings with orthoptists, optometrists, and paediatricians. • Support emergency and urgent care where necessary. • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with governance standards. • Provide supervision and training to junior doctors, orthoptic staff, and trainees. • Engage in audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement projects. • Contribute to the ongoing development of paediatric ophthalmology services. Essential Criteria: • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise. • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Ophthalmology (or eligible within 6 months). • Extensive experience in Paediatric Ophthalmology at Consultant or equivalent level. • Fellowship training or substantial experience in paediatric ophthalmology. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. • Up-to-date with safeguarding and child protection protocols. Desirable Criteria: • FRCOphth or equivalent specialist qualification. • Experience working in the NHS or similar healthcare systems. • Experience in teaching or research in paediatric ophthalmology. • Previous locum or consultant-level roles in a tertiary or secondary care setting.
